Biography

Théo Koita (°1996, Évian-les-Bains) is a French-Japanese composer. After studying various instruments (saxophone, baritone saxhorn, tuba, and electric bass) he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Musicology from the Université Grenoble Alpes in 2022. That same year, he received a Diploma of Musical Studies (DEM) in Composition from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional (CRR) of Grenoble.
He then pursued a Master’s degree in Composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, studying under Wim Henderickx, Bram Van Camp, and Steven Prengels. Under the supervision of Jan Van der Roost, he also conducted specialized research on wind orchestra and brass band music, graduating with distinction in 2024.
His work spans a wide range of genres — from chamber music to orchestral and ensemble works — and often incorporates traditional instruments such as the carillon, koto, shamisen, and shō. He also composes for film, dance, and electronic music, with a particular interest in the intersection of the arts and the diversity of musical practices, from amateur to professional. His works have been performed in France, Belgium, and Japan.
Alongside his compositional work, he has been passionate about sound engineering since 2013. In 2021, he obtained a DEM in Sound Professions from the CRR of Grenoble and has since participated to various projects involving recording, mixing, and interdisciplinary creation, covering fields such as classical and amplified music, film music, and computer programming related to sound.
He is currently teaching music theory at the Évian Conservatory (CRC) and the Annemasse Conservatory (CRI), while continuing his activities in both composition and sound engineering.
